Gotham Knights won't ship with any microtransactions when it launches for PlayStation 5 on 25th October 2022. It also won't have any in-game purchases, you won't need to connect to the internet to play the campaign in single player, and you'll only have to subscribe to PS Plus should you want to head online for some co-op action. All these points have been confirmed on the game's official website on a FAQ page.
The page reads: "No. Gotham Knights will not have in-game purchases or microtransactions." It then explains how you won't need to be online in order to play the game by yourself, but you'll obviously need to connect to the internet should you want to utilise online co-op. The page also confirms Gotham Knights won't have any local couch co-op: "Co-op mode can only be played with online with an internet connection." A PS Plus membership is required to team up with a friend online, but you won't be able to play with buddies on other systems via cross-play. The feature "is not planned at this time".
Today was a bit of an info blowout for Gotham Knights, headlined by an extensive 13-minute gameplay demo. It was also announced the PS4 version has been cancelled "to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience".

No microtransactions AT LAUNCH. Would rather no microtransactions AT ALL but WB gotta be WB I guess. At least its not always online. Baby steps I guess
It's a good start for the industry
Aw man another modern game without local co-op. My sis is a big Batman fan and it would have been fun to play this with her. Now she's gotta buy her own PS5 to play? Might have to pass on this one then.
I remember when Square Enix said the same thing about Avengers...
@ATaco Local coop is more or less dead for modern games due to online and the fact it requires double the console power. Unless you wanna make massive graphical and performance downgrades.
This looks so wrong headed. Huge pass.
First I was thinking it’s good that they’ve announced this. But now I’m thinking they’ve just announced it so that it won’t affect review scores at launch.
Why do people keep thinking Local Coop is a priority or something a majority wants? Who sits on a couch with friends to game anymore? Give me a break!
This is the type of online game I can get behind.
@jmac1686 I do. I'd be getting more multiplayer games if they had local multiplayer.
I heard that before will there be no MT after a few months?
@jmac1686 I also care. Local multiplayer is always a great bonus, especially considering it used to be the norm.
My brother lives 3 States away from me and none of my friends/cousins are taking a train to my house to play at 10Pm at night (The time we usually done with family/work responsibilities and can play for a bit)
Online Co-op with voice chat fits my life better these days. This is easily going to the top of my co-op games list.
It's a superhero game and they've already shown multiple suits and exclusive preorder skins. I HIGHLY doubt they will be sticking to no MTX long term
@jmac1686 Lots of people do. We're fortunate enough to have 2 PS5s so it wouldn't necessarily hurt us but it's silly to think that people who still play local coop are unicorns. Much less than in the past but not silly at all. Human contact is great, give it a shot
Read between the lines
**at this time**
That means a week later it will be full of them
I miss those days when "No microtransactions" were a given right when you bought the game and not an "extra reward".
Aren't WB a bit better than most when it comes to Microtransactions after the whole Middle earth fiasco? Like it's minimal? Has been awhile since I've played a game from them.
Either way, still gonna get it day one.
Couch co-op would have probably saved this for me. Offering something different to set it apart from everything else uninspired they showed. That’s a shame.
Yeah, "at launch" so people will pre-order and pay full price out of good faith, then you throw 'em in afterwards.
Glad it doesn’t require online. I know we knew single-player was going to be an option but this makes it seem like the game will still play and function well without the co-op aspect.
The game didnt look that fantastic i have no idea why they dont release a PS4 version? Well thats no issue for me i can buy it at a discount when i get a PS5.
I bet they still sell skin packs though and being the comic nerd i am i shell buy them like a sucker.
@NomNom love your avatar KPP rocks
Again with this BS. I've played a ton of games that have MTX. You don't need to spend any money on them to enjoy the game. What's next? Going to a store and complaining that the shirt comes in different colours and you somehow feel forced to buy all of them? It's not like the game doesn't work without MTX. You don't really need x character in blue, in addition to green that the base game offers.
is WB being a good guy? Have they learned from Shadow of War??!?
It’s when they say things like this you’d hope that reviewers would wait a couple of weeks to publish reviews.
Meh these games
Couch co-op would be nice for a change but oh well. Still one of my top 3 games of the year along with The Callisto Protocol and God of War. Can’t wait for this to come out!
@jmac1686 You obviously don’t have a kid and don’t want to shell out $$ for ANOTHER a console. 😉
doesn't matter, it looks like a terrible game. nobody can bring back the magic but rocksteady.
So, optional in game purchases are bad but repeatedly re-releasing old games instead of new ones is good?
What's the logic behind that? Why not ignore microtransactions?
@naruball
I agree. Mtx have become some sort of witch hunt these days haha
@stefan771
because they're things that could have been (and used to be) included in the premium price you pay for a new game.
MTX is just squeezing players for even more money and a scummy tactic
The fact that one of the suits has the description "Year One" leads the cynic in me to believe we'll see MTX further down the line.
But sure! We will add them later anyways! 😈 Says corporate CEO
@cmiaow like I said lol
I need to see to how geared this is towards co-op before I have increased interest. the gameplay did nothing to raise my excitement. The batman and Mordor games were good but it does not look like the core gameplay has moved on much since then. WB needs to move on in my view
